For our environment, it’s also important that phones are recycled. We collect phones for recycling, possibly in combination with other computer waste. This service is B2B only, so not available to private individuals. Do you want to hand in old mobile phones? Then we can collect them from you free of charge, provided they weigh more than 200 kilos together, possibly in combination with computer waste. If the waste weighs less than 200 kilos, we charge a collection fee of €100.

Get money for your unwanted mobile phones
If you think that your batch of used telephones still has value, you as a company can also hand in the old mobile phones by having us buy them up. It is of course true that a telephone carries very little weight. In terms of weight, the phones are hardly part of the mix that we recycle every year. But still, proper recycling of phones is important for our environment. At IT-Recycling, the telephones are therefore separated and treated separately.
Phone recycling process

Another problem with lithium batteries is that they pose a considerable fire hazard. Batteries can ignite spontaneously, especially if they become damaged and short-circuit internally. At IT-recycling, we reduce this risk by storing lithium batteries separately with special fire protection.
Furthermore, every phone has a TFT screen which contains mercury. The WEEELABEX standard prescribes that screens larger than 10 cm2 must be removed from a phone before further recycling, so each phone has to be disassembled separately.
What’s left over after the battery and screen are removed is sent for recycling.

Server recycling and data destruction.
Usually, we’re asked to destroy the sensitive data contained in phones we receive for recycling. The best way to destroy the data on a phone is to destroy the entire phone. The memory chips in a phone are very small, so a fine shredder is needed.
Phone recycling and reuse of an unwanted smartphone
The best method of recycling is not to recycle at all, but reuse. When we receive old phones, we check whether they can still be used as such.
In practice, however, this is very rare, because a used phone often still has a password and/or Cloud account. We can bypass the passwords with a hard reset, but a Cloud account makes any phone unusable. Do you want to know more or destroy data on telephones? Read more about this in the blog about data destruction for telephones.
