Recycling monitors (TFT monitors)
We rarely come across old CRT monitors these days, but we do collect more and more TFT monitors for recycling. Only about 50% of TFT monitors can be recycled (by weight). This is due to the backlights in monitors, which contain quite a few harmful substances such as mercury.

At the moment, many defective TFT monitors are exported from Europe to developing countries, where the screens are used to build cheap TVs. The rest of the monitor is often disassembled and recycled with disregard for the environment and health, which is why exporting defective TFT monitors is prohibited. Unfortunately, not everyone adheres to these regulations, as there’s a lot of money to be made circumventing the law.
Certification and legal requirements for printer recycling

To prevent the export of computer waste, companies involved in the collection and processing of computer waste must be certified according to the WEEELABEX standard. As you might expect, IT-recycling possesses this certification. The WEEELABEX website has a list of certified companies. WEEELABEX certification is your guarantee that waste is recycled legally according to the highest standards.
