Tips for destroying USB sticks and all other digital media
Our services are based on our conviction that PHYSICAL destruction, i.e. with a hard drive shredder, is the only method that offers 100% security. There are tools on the market for wiping USB sticks and small data carriers, but so far, we, as specialists in data destruction in the Netherlands, don’t yet know whether these tools work properly in practice. Our tip: have it destroyed physically, preferably on location, and in your presence.
A very fine shredder is needed to physically destroy small data carriers. The shreds of the smallest digital media must not exceed 1 mm. Most USB sticks are destroyed beyond recognition in IT-recycling’s mobile hard drive shredder. It shreds them into 9-mm pieces, which is more than sufficient for most USB sticks.
However, small data carriers can be much smaller, so in these cases we use a special mobile shredder that reduces them to pieces just 1 mm in size. We’re the only company in the Netherlands that can shred down to 1 mm on location. Our tip: Only use a very fine shredder that destroys input to pieces no larger than 10 mm at the most.
