Toner recycling – recycling or refill and re-use.
Every laser printer has a toner. At IT-recycling, we immediately remove the toner from every laser printer we receive so that it can be recycled.
The toner is kept separate from the rest of the printer and is brought to a specialist in toner recycling (Van Klaveren). Toner cartridges are easy to recycle. Toners of still current types are repaired, refilled, and sold as “compatible toners”, a cheap alternative to branded toners.
We also accept separate toners for recycling which we collect as part of computer waste. However, if you have a substantial amount, we recommend that you have it collected by a company specialising in toner recycling. This is free of charge, and you often even receive cash for them.
We have some tips for how to handle old laser printers and its toners:
- If you are moving an old printer, do not turn it on its side. That might cause the toner to leak, with undesirable consequences as a result.
- When handling toners, use gloves. The black material – the actual toner – is very harmful to health. In addition, do not smoke, or drink tea or coffee when working with toners.
- Still managed to make a mess with the toner? For best results, clean it up with a vacuum cleaner.
